This is my ongoing blog about skepticism about the virus called "2019-nCoV", "SARS-CoV-2" or "Novel Coronavirus", and the syndrome it causes, COVID-19.

PERSONALLY, I try to take in ALL sources, because nearly every source has some useful information. If you decide (for example) that FoxNews is an unreliable source, you will miss out on some important critical examination of the Democratic Party. Tucker Carlson is on Fox, and he gets many stories right (RussiaGate, Assange, Syria) and gives good interviews of people (Tulsi Gabbard) who are nearly banned from other outlets.

It seems like people WANT to be afraid! It's like people want to be a part of something big. It's like they have strong attachment to the drama and story. If you give them any information to suggest that the story might be a Hoax, or at least overblown (perhaps for a political purpose, or a profit motive), people get very upset and abusive. (as if I were telling them how a movie ends).
If you threaten to take away a story by which someone defines themselves, then they respond in a way as if you were threatening their lives.

I have one FB friend who likes posting a bunch of speculative numbers, based on high R0 values (rate of transmission) or Case Fatality Rates sometimes exceeding 6%.
But if you ASK SOME BASIC QUESTIONS, like
For example, IT IS A FACT that the only people who are being tested ARE THOSE who are already expressing certain symptoms. THIS MEANS that people who have mild symptoms, or atypical symptoms ARE NOT BEING TESTED! And this means the COUNT OF INFECTED PERSONS could be 100x, 1,000x, or even 10,000x higher than what is being reported.
Now some might say,
OH NO!!! IT'S SPREADING SO FAR AND WIDE!!!
But Steven Hatfill, a well known scientist and developer of bio-warfare agents for the US Military, says that 80-90% of all people will experience MILD SYMPTOMS!
So if the

People keep telling me if predictions of MILLIONS of potential US deaths from CV.
Yet, lots of people (even "experts") make predictions about the future which turn out to be wrong.
Did the WHO or the CDC predict this would happen? UH, NO. So if the experts didn't predict it, why should we trust them when they predict hyperbolic casualty numbers?
I can remember just 4 years ago, every expert was saying there would be an 80% Hillary Clinton would win by a landslide.
As DATA SCIENTISTS (even lay scientists), we must be careful to use REAL WORLD DATA, and understand that ALL PREDICTIONS are just that: predictions. NO ONE KNOWS the future....
Well, unless your name is Feinstein, Burr, Loeffler, or Inhofe,
I was BLOCKED by two well-known environmental journalists,
Steve Horn, and Josh Pribanic,
for my practicing journalism
(fact-checking official sources).
Both had an extremely arrogant attitude,
mocking anyone with another point of view,

I find this quite odd.

Yes, I can see you like to make up a bunch of speculative numbers. Everyone should have a hobby.
But in fact you do not know the future. Anything can happen. This thing surprised everyone when it arrived, it could surprise us when it leaves.
The thing to fear IMO is not the virus itself. The way this looks *by the numbers* (I'm a data dude) is very minor.
The thing to fear is a) global freakout, b) hoarding, c) martial law during a critical US election, d) the meltdown in the energy and capital markets (this event makes a convenient cover for an economic crash caused by, e.g., Peak Oil)
