BREAKING NEWS: NYSDEC Reopens Permit for Sungeel Hazardous Waste Incinerator in Endicott

----------- FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -----------------

By William Huston
for Concerned Citizens of Endicott

NYSDEC is reopening the comment period on the Sungeel ASF permit
for the Lithium Ion Hazardous Waste Incinerator in Endicott, due to the
suspected presence of PFAS compounds.

NYSDEC will make permit modifications, and reopen the public comment
period ONLY ON THESE CHANGES.

William Huston of Concerned Citizens of Endicott states:

This is great, as it will cause a delay in the permitting process!

However, the NYSDEC has failed to identify the numerous other
defects Concerned Citizens of Endicott  have identified with this permit,
the biggest being the initial mis-classification as an Unlisted SEQR Action.

This project MUST BE a Type-1 SEQR, due to a necessary zoning change
impacting > 25 acres. 6 NYCRR 617.4(b)(2).

Also, because NYSDEC failed to identify just ONE of many possible impacts
to the environment and/or human health, NYSDEC failed to correctly
issue a Positive Declaration, and begin the EIS process.

Because of this initial misclassification, and erroneous "Negative Declaration",
the NYSEC FAILED to hold public hearings, FAILED to perform an EIS, and FAILED
to perform a Coordinated Review.

The NYSDEC MUST START OVER, classify this correctly as a Type-1 SEQR,
perform a COMPREHENSIVE EIS, a COMPREHENSIVE Coordinated Review,
and also hold multiple public hearings, beginning with SCOPING. (+DEIS, FEIS, & Permit).
